Ducks breeding

Let’s think about the way to grow ducks ready to be forced-feed. How to mix the animal comfort, the gain of time and the work control for the breeders, and also improve the health and environmental aspects?

This was the main topics of the open-doors day in June 30th organized at the “Soubiraa Company”.
Serge Soubiraa introduced the two new buildings, about 780 m2 both, built at the end of the year 2008, just before the huge storms we had in France, depending on a new breeding concept.
The breeders and the majority of the partners (builders, bank, insurance…) have appreciated this kind of invest.

Why don’t we build solid buildings to allow a feeding inside?

Excel Company and it technical team had already planned to make the duck breeding more attractive with work comfort, animal comfort, environmental norms, health security…
That is how three years ago, we made two new breeding projects with these different goals. We thank the two breeders who trusted us and allowed us to improve our future. Today, they can say: “no regret”!
The Klauss storm has increased the process for a big part of our breeders, as we have to build again, let’s have a look together on tomorrow!

Goals for 2009

We plan to change, before the end of 2009, about 50% of our shelters which had been destroyed, into separated solid buildings, with a food chain, watering line inside and pipette ramps outside.
The Excel technical team is in charge of the economic studies and administrative folders about the buildings’ agrees and helps.
A financial help and a support in the time will be agreed to encourage this type of installations.

The different challenge to reach while breeding

• The animal comfort and be able to give a good living place to it.
• The breeder comfort by working in good conditions, winning time and control (food quantity, weights…).
• The health point: not to go into routes with tractors anymore thanks to an automatic food chain inside. Be able to make the ducks go inside in case of epizootic.
• Environmental aspect: by collecting the most dejects into the litter of the building because of the ducks feed inside.
• The water consumption control: the concept of pipette in finishing of breeding limits the waste and brings a better water quality.

Supported by our breeders and partners, we fix ourselves the objective of keeping on improving this concept, and of bringing it to the new breeders’ generation. They represent the future and will be attracted by a work more comfortable, more efficient and better controlled while improving the duck quality and comfort.
